ALBUQUERQUE, 1-9-18– Rio Bravo will be closed at the I-25 Interchange from 8 p.m.-5:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12 and Saturday, Jan. 13 so that crews can set bridge girders. In addition, the southbound left lane of I-25 and the northbound left lane of I-25 will be closed from north of the Rio Bravo interchange to south of the interchange from 8 p.m.-5 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12 and Saturday, Jan. 13. Traffic will not be permitted under either of the I-25 bridges.
Local traffic on Rio Bravo can use University Boulevard east of I-25 or Broadway west of I-25 as detours.
All entrance and exit ramps to and from I-25 will remain open, however Traffic will not be permitted under either of the I-25 bridges. Southbound I-25 traffic will be able to exit at the interchange and head west on Rio Bravo. Also, traffic heading east on Rio Bravo will be able to enter southbound I-25. Northbound I-25 traffic will be able to exit at the interchange and head east on Rio Bravo. Traffic heading west on Rio Bravo will be able to enter northbound I-25.
The work is being done at night and over a weekend to minimize the impact to individuals who commute to work in the area.
Construction on the project, which is designed to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow and safety, is in Phase 1, which is expected to last through March 2018. Construction on the entire project is expected to be completed in summer 2019.
Speed limits are reduced in the construction zone. Motorists are encouraged to give themselves extra time to reach their destination, watch for construction signs and use extra caution when traveling through the area.
